Physical Education and Health

In term 4 we have had a visit from the Northern Knights cricket team, who gave us a training session on cricket skills, particularly making sure that our hands were in the correct position to stop the ball, or take catches when we are fielding. We also had to make sure that when we ran, we took the cricket bat with us, as real cricket players would be in trouble if they ran to the opposite wickets without their bat!
We were also fortunate to have the surf lifeguards from Piha and Bethells Beach come to visit Hurupaki school.
They taught us about surf safety, and how to stay safe when swimming at a surf beach.
They also gave us lots of information about being Sun Smart and Sun Safe.
We know that we have to... Slip, Slop, Slap, Wrap and Slide, as well as Sip plenty of liquid (especially water) and have Shoes to protect our feet on hot sand.

For the rest of the term we will be working on athletics skills, including running, jumping and throwing, ready for out school athletics day.

PE and Health We were pleased with the results of our cross-country training and our performances on race day.
Fantastic! I could hear the clappers go bang!
Then we were able to zoom off when the cross-country started, and when it did, we sped off like rockets!
I could hear feet stomping down on the grass, my heart was beating faster than ever.
It was a super-giant course, but I didn't stop and walk, I ran all the way. I got an extra boost when I raced downhill.
I was coming last, but I was ahead of Ben. It was terrific that me and Ben came a tie.
